Brake Failure Leads To Friday Baxter Crash

The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports faulty brakes likely led to a tractor-trailer accident at the Baxter exit ramp Friday.

The incident occurred when 30-year-old Troy Brooks Jr. of Gallatin was exiting I-40 and attempted to turn right onto Highway 56 when he was unable to stop.

Meanwhile, 64-year-old Lonnie Dunn of Baxter was traveling south on Highway 56 when Brooks’ semi struck Dunn’s 2015 Ford Focus.

Dunn was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville following the crash after sustaining injuries. The extent of Dunn’s injuries are currently unknown.

The THP reports an inspection on Brooks’ semi revealed an air loss rate issue with the truck’s brakes. The investigating trooper noted that the issue ultimately caused the semi to not stop and collide with Dunn’s vehicle.

Brooks was cited with failing to exercise due care following the accident.
