TDOT Airport Project Requires Local Govt. Approval

A TDOT road project at the Upper Cumberland Regional Airport requires approval from the four managing government bodies.

Airport Manager Dean Selby said Putnam County, White County, Cookeville, and Sparta will need to approve a land transfer to the state to widen Airport Road.

“After talking with TDOT, we don’t believe that that little area that they were wanting has federal dollars attached to it, so we can release it,” Selby said. “But our intergovernmental agreement requires that all four governments have a resolution allowing us to do that.”

Selby said TDOT will go ahead with the project while the four governments create and pass resolutions officially approving the acquisition.

The resolutions would give TDOT a nearly 1600-square foot stretch along Airport Road to expand the roadway to accommodate a future increase in truck traffic at Hormann.
