Cookeville To Fix ‘Washboard Effect’ On Veterans Drive

The Cookeville Public Works Department will work to fix a portion of East Veterans Drive near South Jefferson Avenue Wednesday and Thursday.

Department Director Greg Brown said during Monday’s work session the city had leftover funds to use a special asphalt to help fix a ‘washboard effect’ in the roadway.

“It’s got polymer mixed in to keep it from sliding, [and] it’s what we did on Broad the last time. If you remember, that was here on Dixie and it was kind of doing the same thing,” Brown said. “It’s worked pretty well and it’s cheaper than doing the concrete work like we did at Jackson and Willow and Jefferson. We got a price from our contractor which seemed like a fair price compared to what TDOT bids it around the state.”

Brown said the city had leftover funding in its paving budget which allowed the project to be moved up.

Both lanes of East Veterans Drive and the right northbound lane on South Jefferson Avenue will be closed for overnight roadwork from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.
