You may want to think twice before taking an all-terrain vehicle to Meadow Creek Park.
Monterey Mayor Bill Wiggins said you could face a penalty if you decide to do so.
“For those of you who do read the signs out there, all-terrain vehicles are prohibited. They’re vandalizing our property,” Wiggins said. “The penalty for anyone who is caught is jail and/or a fine.”
Wiggins said the vehicles have torn up part of the property near the front entrance.
“We have stepped up police patrols,” Wiggins said. “If it continues we will talk about a reward because it’s getting pretty messy.”
Wiggins said he’s asked the police chief to look at possibly installing security cameras at the park.
The 300-plus acre park opened to the public in July and Monterey has spent the past several months developing a master plan for future developments.
