The Cookeville Police Department continues to work on finalizing a design for its new headquarters.
Chief Randy Evans said the department and architects have sifted through several proposals before he presented two options to city officials Monday.
“What we have been primarily focused on is just trying to get the look, and we just introduced that to the Council to ensure we were heading in the right direction,” Evans said. “They confirmed that they were pretty comfortable with the look. Of course, that will change as we get deeper into the design, but generally, what we saw today will be the general direction we head in.”
As of now, the building will incorporate the department logo into the facade plus an onyx memorial wall at the main entrance.
Evans said he expects the design phase to wrap up quickly before construction documents are acquired.
“We have had some timelines established, but of course, none of this ever happens as fast as you would want it to,” Evans said. “What I would say now would kind of be an estimate. We hope to be finished with the design – and that’s through the construction documents – by late summer or early fall.”
The building will also feature a community room, which will become the new home for Cookeville’s city court and city clerk. Cookeville city court is currently held at city hall inside the council chambers.
