CRMC Could Assist Businesses With Security, Safety Expertise

Cookeville Regional Medical Center (CRMC) could soon assist area businesses with security and safety needs.

Chief Operating Officer Scott Williams said offering security training and other safety services would benefit the region.

“There could be more volatile situations not only in our facility but other facilities,” Williams said. “Our protective services department does extensive training in how to defuse volatile situations and if they’re unable to defuse those situations, how to handle those situations appropriately. Particularly, with patients and family present nearby.”

Williams first proposed the idea during CRMC’s Planning Committee meeting Tuesday. He said the proposal would allow CRMC to share their knowledge and expertise with interested companies.

“We’d be happy to share that information with other local businesses that would be interested in how we defuse volatile situations or handle those volatile situations,” Williams said, “and talk with them about some of the techniques that we use here at the hospital that helps keep us safe.”

Data from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics reports nearly 70 percent of nonfatal workplace violence in 2016 occurred within the healthcare and social services industries.
