Crossville City Council members have asked Cumberland County students to design a new flag for the city.
City Councilman Rob Harrison said he wants the students to include the Crossville seal in their designs.
“I want us to present a consistent image in the public eye,” Harrison said. “I think it would be fine to incorporate it into some other design and it would probably be a good civics lesson for the students to work with our seal.”
The city decided to create a new flag after the manufacturer of the current one went out of business. City Manager Greg Wood said the current flag has also become tattered over the years.
“Well, our problem is, the city flag there is not in too great of shape,” Woods said. “The company that made it is out of business, so [there is] one city flag flown.”
The winner of the flag design contest will receive $200 from the City of Crossville. Second and third place will also receive a cash prize.
Council members voted to let students design the flag during last week’s city council meeting.
