Monterey is a step closer to installing a new eight inch water line from South Holly Street to Interstate 40.
Monterey Grant Writer Dawn Kupferer said Monday night that Governor Bill Lee has approved a pre-application for an Appalachian Regional Commission grant.
“We originally put in an application for $825,000. It was a 50-50 grant to take the water out there because of the issues we have with the water lines going underneath I-40,” Kupferer said. “This is good news. We’ve been needing this for a long time.”
Kupferer said the town will need to send a full application to the governor’s office by April 15th. Monterey aldermen voted to submit the pre-application in December.
“We’re going to have to look at the numbers and get back with them,” Kupferer said “but usually, if a governor likes a project then you have no problems.”
The water and sewer committee will be meeting later this month to begin the process of submitting the full application.
