The City of Livingston expects to know whether they will receive flood relief funds within the next couple weeks.
Mayor Curtis Hayes addressed the flooding during Monday’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting.
“TEMA is evaluating and forming an analysis… on exactly what it cost Livingston,” Hayes said, “also homes that were destroyed on the count of so much rainfall that we’ve had over the last 30 days. Our count was, in two weeks, we had over 26 inches of rainfall to drop in the City of Livingston.”
Overton County Executive Ben Danner issued a state of emergency for Overton County last month as heavy rainfall made its way through the Upper Cumberland.
Hayes said relief funds would help residents and businesses impacted by high flood waters.
“We’ve got countless hours in, and thousands and thousands of dollars of man hours and equipment that has been rented,” Hayes said. “We hope that the State of Tennessee and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency gives us some relief.”
TEMA will analyze expenses from the city and damage across the county to see if they’re eligible for funding. Hayes said the city could hear back as early as this week.
