Lawmakers Seeking Federal Assistance For Flooding

State lawmakers have requested federal assistance due to extensive flooding in Overton County.

State Senator Paul Bailey and House Representative John Mark Windle wrote a letter to Governor Bill Lee on Friday asking for his assistance in getting a federal disaster declaration for the county.

“With more rain in the forecast over the next two days the situation will only worsen,” the letter stated. “We ask that you request President Donald J. Trump declare Overton County a federal disaster area.”

A federal disaster declaration would open up federal disaster relief programs and other resources for individuals and businesses impacted by the floods.

Several roadways across Livingston and the rest of Overton County have experienced heavy rainfall causing flood water to rise above roadways. Bradford Hicks Drive still remains partially closed near the Highway 52 intersection. The area remains under a flash flood watch by the National Weather Service through Saturday night.
