An Algood woman faces multiple charges after allegedly driving under the influence with two children in her vehicle.
Cookeville Police arrested 27-year-old Sonya Renee Allen for DUI, reckless endangerment, simple possession, tampering with evidence, and contraband in a penal facility.
Arrest warrants indicate the arresting officer spotted Allen passed out in her vehicle with the engine running in the Cookeville Walmart parking lot.
The officer also noticed two small children under the age of four were in the vehicle with Allen.
Police arrested Allen was arrested after failing two field sobriety tests. However, before the booking search at the county jail, the warrants also state Allen slipped her handcuffs and attempted to swallow pills after hiding a bottle “in a body cavity.”
The bottle contained 16 Alprazolam tablets of different dosages and one Subutex pill, both considered controlled substances.
Allen has since been released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court March 11.
