Obituaries For Monday, February 18

A Celebration of Life Service for Yasuko “Tie” Winfree, age 86, of Baxter, will be held Monday, February 18th at 6 pm in the Chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Pastor Charlie Wills officiating. Tie passed away Thursday, February 7, 2019, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. Tie was born on January 28, 1933 in Hokkaido, Japan. She was the daughter of the late Taro Koga and Nobu Hayashida Koga. The family later moved to Koga, Japan where she grew up. She married Leo Winfree of Baxter in 1952. She met Leo in Japan during his service in the Korean War. Tie has been a resident of Baxter since 1954 and became an American citizen in 1963. She worked for 40 years, of which the last 30 years were spent in the cafeteria at Baxter Elementary School. Tie attended and was baptized at Baxter United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the community, always ready to feed and care for whomever entered their home. Tie enjoyed traveling back to Japan, fishing, crafts, hosting visiting Japanese students, and loving her family. She was a wonderful, loving, and devoted wife, mother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings. Tie is survived by her husband, Leo Winfree, her four children, Alvin Winfree (Julie), Keith Winfree, Scott Winfree (Stephanie), and Amy Wheelock (Tim), thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, and six siblings. The family will receive friends on Monday the 18th, from 4pm until the time of service at 6pm at Presley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at stjude.org.

A Celebration of Life Service for Layton Wynn Proffitt, age 16, of Cookeville, will be held Monday at 7p at the River Community Church. Layton passed away suddenly Friday evening February 15, 2019 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Layton was a student at Cookeville High School and member of the Cavalier Football Team. He was fun loving, good natured, and eager to please, but also protective and loyal to friends and family. A lifelong resident of Cookeville, Layton was born March 27, 2002 to his parents, Bryan Proffitt and Lisa Eller, both of Cookeville. Layton’s family will receive friends Monday from 3 – 7 p.m. at the River Community Church in Cookeville.

Funeral services for Mrs. Enzena McCulley Mullins, age 94 of Sparta will be conducted 11:00am Tuesday, February 19, 2019 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 5-8:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home. Thomas McCulley will officiate. She passed away Sunday, February 17, 2019 at her residence. Mrs. Mullins was born August 19, 1924 in Sparta, Tennessee to the late William & Eula Fay Farley McCulley. Mrs. Mullins was a supportive loving wife for 70 years, and a sweet caring mother and grandmother. As a child of the depression, Mrs. Mullins learned to do a lot with a little, to be a great homemaker, a wonderful cook and a skilled gardener. Mrs. Mullins and her husband Houston loved to travel and she kept detailed daily journals of all the places they visited.

Funeral Services For Glen “Cob” Horn, Age 77, Of Monterey, Tennessee, Will Be Conducted On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, At 11:00 AM From The Chapel Of Goff Funeral Home. Bro. Bobby Floyd, Pastor Steve Looper And Bro. Eddy Way Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The Whittaker Cemetery. Mr. Horn Was Born On September 21, 1941, In Monterey, Tennessee, To The Late Lucille Vanderpool Tinch. Mr. Horn Passed Away On Saturday, February 16, 2019, At The Cumberland Medical Center. Mr. Horn Retired From Genco Stamping In Cookeville. He Was A Security Guard At Holiday Inn For Many Years. He Was A Member Of Monterey Community Church. He Is Survived By His Daughter, Glenda Horn Of Monterey, TN; Son, Tony Horn And Companion, Billie Grogan Of Monterey, TN; Granddaughter, Destiny Spurlock; Sister, Bennie Nell Phillips Of Monterey, TN; Brother, Bill Horn Of Bell Buckle, TN; Half Brother, James (And Carolyn) Tinch Of Monterey, TN; And Several Nieces And Nephews. In Addition To His Mother, He Was Preceded In Death By His Wife, Linda Swafford Horn; Step Father, Carson Tinch; And Sister, Sylvia Tinch. The Family Will Receive Friends At Goff Funeral Home On Monday, February 18, 2019, From 5:00 PM Until 8:00 PM.

Graveside services for Claudean Davis, age 72, of Cookeville will be held Tuesday, February 19th, 2019 at 2:00 pm in Shipley Cemetery with Ray Wilmoth officiating. Interment will follow in Shipley Cemetery. Claudean Davis passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville. Claudean was born Sunday, November 3, 1946 in Baxter, Tennessee to the late Claude Mayberry and Nancy Lewis Mayberry. She attended Jere Whitson Church of Christ.

Service for Robert Hill (“Bob”) Geer, 84 of Sparta, will be held on Tues, Feb 19, 2019, at 2:00 pm at Thurman Funeral Home with burial at Big Springs Cemetery. Mr. Geer passed away on Feb 16, 2019 at Life Care in Sparta. He was born on Nov 29, 1934 to Dave and Denton Geer. Mr. Geer was a member of the Big Springs Church of Christ and retired with 32 years of service from TDOT Sparta. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Rhea Cox Geer; his parents, Dave and Denton Geer; brothers, Don Geer, David Geer, Floyd Geer, and sister, Ruth Wilson. Survivors include three children, Debbie Horton of Sparta, Andy Geer of Sparta and Randy Geer (wife Laura Geer) of Cookeville; three grandchildren, Tisha, Joshua and Andrew; three sisters, Dorothy Speck, Ann Price and Jo Jarvis and husband Bill Jarvis; one sister-in-law, Treva Geer; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Special friends are Lyle Scott, Robert Parrish, Buddy Shockley, James Eller, Harold Massa, and (the late) Tommy Leftwich. The family will receive friends on Mon, Feb 18, 2019, from 4-8 pm at Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta.

Funeral services for Kathleen Hazel (Smith) Ragland, 89 of Cookeville, will be held at 2:00 on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Morgan-Pippin Cemetery in Cookeville. Kathleen passed from this life on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Mabry Health Care & Rehabilitation in Gainesboro. Kathleen was born Sunday, November 24, 1929, in Jackson County, and she was the daughter of the late Cordell Hull and Fannie B.(Anderson) Smith. Kathleen was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was an extremely hard worker. Kathleen is survived by: 3 Sons: Lee Ragland, Jeff Ragland, John Ragland; Grandson: Logan and Hollie Ragland; Sisters: Christine Bryant, Mary Burgess, A.V. Meeks, Jewell Wingard, Jo Helen Baker, and Jean Denton; Brother: James Smith. In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by: Husband, Lee M. Ragland; 3 Brothers, Paul, Cecil, and Charlie Ray Smith and Sister, Norma Stewart. Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, February 19, 2019, from 12:00 pm until time of services at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

Visitation for Paul Richmond “Coach” Anderson, 86 of Hendersonville, formerly of Cookeville, will be held at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN, from 5 P.M. – 8 P.M. on Tuesday, February 19, 2019. A private graveside service will be held at the Richmond Cemetery. Anderson passed away February 17, 2019 in Hendersonville, Tennessee. The son of Vance and Ruby Anderson of Cookeville, TN. Paul was born on July 6, 1932 in Granville. His family remembers most his love, strength and lifelong mischievous sense of humor. Paul was passionate about sports, dance, and mentoring young people. He excelled in football at Cookeville High School (senior Capitan) and Tennessee Tech University as a starting running back most seasons. In 2011, he was enshrined into the Cookeville Sports Hall of Fame. Paul coached many high school sports, particularly football. As head coach, in 1963 he won the state championship with York Institute (Jamestown, TN) High School. His long coaching career spanned small and large high schools including York Institute, Livingston, Portland, and Hendersonville. With a permanent smile, optimistic outlook and a word of encouragement, he was a positive influence on many young lives and most remember him as Coach Anderson. In lieu of flowers, memorial
donations may be made to the Tennessee Tech Foundation.

Funeral services for Leigh Anne Eldridge, age 17, of Cookeville will be held Wednesday, February 20th, 2019 at 11:00 am at Life Church with Brother Russell Flatt officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Overton County. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM and Wednesday, February 20, 2019, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Life Church. Leigh Anne Eldridge passed away Friday, February 15, 2019 in the Pippin Community of Putnam County, as a result of an automobile accident. Leigh Anne Eldridge was born Friday, September 28, 2001 in Livingston, Tennessee to Timothy B. Eldridge and Lisa Ann Mace Bilbrey.

Memorial services for Mr. Robert Lee Nokes, age 80 of Quebeck, will be held at 3pm on Friday, February 22, 2019, in the chapel of Oak Lawn Funeral Home with James Dukes officiating. Mr. Nokes passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Saint Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. Born Thursday, December 22, 1938 in Nashville, he was the son of the late Carroll Nokes and the late Bertha Woodard Nokes. Mr. Nokes, better known as “Elvis”, grew up in Nashville and moved to White County 43 years ago. He retired from Robert Orr / Sisco after 35 years of service. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend to many. Surviving family members include: wife – Donna Maggard Nokes of Sparta; son – Mike Nokes of Quebeck; four grandchildren – Amanda, Brittany, Christen and Cody; sister – Wanda of Nashville; brother – Richie of Nashville; Eight great grandchildren also survive. A period of visitation with the family will be held Friday, prior to the service, from 2 until 3pm at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gerelene Wiley, 78 of Cookeville will be held February 23 at 1 .m in the Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Tosh officiating. Interment will follow in Double Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Wiley died Saturday February 16, 2019 at 2:16 a.m. at Season’s Hospice in Phoenixville, PA. Gerelene’s family will receive friends Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday from 12 noon until service time at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner.

Memorial services for Cathleen Lorraine Loveday, age 54, of Cookeville, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday February 23 at Colonial View Baptist Church. Cathleen passed away Sunday morning February 17, 2019 at her home.
