Tennessee Tech will host the 2019 State Scholastic Individual Chess Tournament Saturday.
Tennessee Chess Association vice president Paul Semmes said about 128 K-12 students will be competing for championships and scholarships.
“We have hosted the individual finals here since 1998 and the team finals since 2004,” said Paul Semmes, Tennessee Chess Association vice president and dean of Tech’s College of Arts & Sciences. “We have been able to offer scholarships since 2004.”
Semmes said Tech will award four-year University Service Scholarships to the first and second place winners of the event.
High school champions will earn the right to represent Tennessee in the Arnold Denker Tournament of High School Champions in Orlando, Florida.
TTU will host the Tennessee State Scholastic Team Chess Tournament on Saturday, March 23rd.
