Monterey FD Requesting New Equipment For Parks

The Monterey Fire Department will request new equipment for responding to issues at Meadow Creek and Bee Rock.

Fire Chief Kevin Peters said his department will have more responsibilities as the city begins managing the outdoor attractions.

“We also handle medical calls when the ambulance is out of town plus the new ventures that are coming to us now,” Peters said. “We’ve got to get some training for that and try to get up to speed so there’s not a big delay in time.”

Peters has requested funding for a rescue boat, UTV, pickup truck, cargo trailer and repelling equipment. The price for the items range from an estimated $6,000 to $25,000.

“The city has been good over the years to help with our needs,” Peters said. “Needs and wants are totally different, but the needs are getting to be quit numerous anymore.”

Peters said the requested items would have his crew better prepared for situations that might occur at the parks.

“We are kind of isolated from the other cities and there is a lag before they (Putnam County) can get to us to help,” Peters said. “It would help if we could get there initially and get started. If we need additional help, I’m sure they would be there to help us.”

Peters will provide Aldermen with more specific prices for the equipment during the next finance committee meeting.
