The City of Algood has a new person conducting codes enforcement efforts.
City Administrator Keith Morrison said Algood will no longer be using police officers for the job.
“The problem with the police officers trying to do codes enforcement is that they work a rotating schedule and they’re never in on the same days,” Morrison said. “When they need to do follow-ups or if someone needs to contact them, it’s hard to give specific times for them to be able to do that.”
Morrison has decided to hire a public works employee to serve as the new codes enforcement officer. That employee will be in charge of enforcing codes on Monday’s and Friday’s.
“With a public works employee doing it, on at least Monday and Friday we know they are dedicated to that codes enforcement,” Morrison said. “That’s all they are going to be doing at that time.”
Morrison has hired Phillip Moss to be the new codes enforcement officer. Moss began serving the position earlier this week.
“We’re working on looking at all the municipal codes and what he needs to watch for,” Morrison said, “and then we are going to talk about a strategy and how we can achieve that.”
Morrison said the change to enforcement efforts was made internally and will not require approval from the city council.
