A Cumberland County deputy is recovering at home after he was struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon.
Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Gary Howard said Wednesday Deputy Scott Iles sustained injuries to his head which required over 200 stitches, a cracked sternum, and damage to his knee.
“Scott is in good spirits and is missing his young friends at school,” Howard said. “He was most appreciative for the overwhelming outpouring of prayers and support he received.”
Tennessee Highway Patrol reports 87-year-old Patrick Hicks III struck Iles around 3:12 p.m.
The incident report indicates Hicks, of Monterey, was traveling south on Highway 127 in a 2014 Ford Focus while Iles was directing traffic at North Cumberland Elementary School.
The report states Iles was run over by Hicks, hit the car’s windshield, and landed 50-feet in front of the vehicle. Iles was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment.
Charges are currently pending against Hicks.
