Overton County Seeking CDBG Funding for Ambulances

Overton County hopes to obtain state grant funding to purchase three new ambulances.

County Executive Ben Danner says commissioners have voted to apply for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

“We’ve got some ambulances that’s got several miles on them and after a certain time you can’t have them on the road,” Danner said. “We go all the way from Hanging Limb to Muddy Pond and plum to the Putnam County line and back.”

Danner said the grant could provide the county with up to $325,000.

“We did the housing grant in Cravenstown in 2015, which was a CDBG. It just now ended and we rebuilt six houses for people up there,” Danner said. “This will be the first one we have applied for since then.”

Danner said the county had the opportunity to apply for CDBG grant funding to address road infrastructure and fire department needs.

“Sometimes when we’ve applied for grants, they’ve told us up front that we didn’t score high enough and we didn’t get it,” Danner said. “I wanted to apply for something and score enough where we would have a really good chance at getting it.”

The county will find out if they receive the grant sometime later this year.
