Obituaries For Thursday, January 10

Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Sue Halcomb Bilbrey, age 71, of Rickman, will be conducted 1 p.m., Thursday, January 10, 2019 from the chapel of the Livingston Funeral Home. Bro. James Williams, Bro. Chris Sparkman and Bro. Tommy Harris will officiate. Burial will be in the Eckel Cemetery. Mrs. Barbara passed from this life on Monday morning, January 7, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at home. She was born in Letcher County Kentucky on April 22, 1947 to the late Otis and Sarah Jane Osborne Halcomb. Barbara loved her family dearly and enjoyed reading, needle point, and going to church. She was a member of the Zion Hill United Methodist Church. Barbara leaves behind her loving husband, Hershel Bilbrey of Rickman; sons, Steve Bilbrey & wife Teresa of Rickman, and Keith Bilbrey & wife PJ of Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Evelyn Shepard of Slemp, KY, and Saundra DeFrance & husband Brian of Livingston; grandsons, Issac Bilbrey, Jared Bilbrey, Alex Bilbrey, Holden Bilbrey, and Shawn Singh; granddaughter, Lindsey Garner & husband Nathan; great-granddaughters, Baylee Garner and Charley Garner. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her 4 brothers and 3 sisters. The family will welcome friends on Wednesday evening from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Livingston Funeral Home. Memorial Donations may be made to the American Brain Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elise Hill White, age 104, of Livingston will be conducted 1 p.m., Friday, January 11, 2019 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Ken Nicholson and Bro. David Hill will officiate. Burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery. The family will welcome friends on Thursday evening from 5 until 8 p.m., at Speck Funeral Home. Mrs. Elise passed from this life on Tuesday evening, January 8, 2019, from the Overton County Health & Rehab Center. She was born in Clay County Tennessee on September 18, 1914 to the late Thomas Hill, Jr. and Mattie Catherine Bradley Hill. Mrs. Elise worked for many years as a cashier for Union Bank & Trust Company. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and taking care of her family that she loved dearly. Elise also enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, going to church and reading her Bible. She was a graduate of the Willow Grove High School class of 1934 and a member of the Allons Church of Christ.

Funeral services for Mr. John Fonville, age 66 of Cookeville, will be a 1 p.m. Friday January 11 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Smellage Cemetery. Mr. Fonville passed away Saturday January 5 at Kindred Hospital in Chattanooga. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 – 8 p.m. and again Friday from 11 a.m. until service time.

Graveside services for Laura Arlene Ward (Mayberry), age 91 of Dayton Ohio, formerly of Dodson Branch will be held Saturday at 11am at Dodson Branch Cemetery. She passed away peacefully Monday January 7th, 2019 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born October 9, 1927 in Dayton, OH, to the late Norman and Emma Mayberry of Dodson Branch, TN. Visitation at Whitson Funeral Home in Cookeville will be held Friday January 11th from 4-9 and Saturday 10-11. Pallbearers will be friends and family.

Memorial services for Mrs. Janet ‘Jan’ Parsons Jordan, age 60, of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, January 12th at 12:00 p.m. at Cookeville First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and again Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. She passed away Sunday morning, January 6th at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services for Helen Carol Carr, 88, of Silver Point, will be Sunday, January 13 at 2 PM from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Smellage Memory Gardens in the Boma Community of Putnam County. Bro. Phil Loftis will officiate. Mrs. Carr died Thursday morning, January 10, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 16, 1930 in Putnam County to the late James Solon and Ada Leona Dyer Cowan. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death her husband Troy Newman Carr on January 18, 2005, sisters Lois Scarlett, Ruth Kirby, Mildred Harris, Dorothy Pugh, brothers Jeff and Fred Cowan. She worked at Acme Boot in Cookeville for twenty years and was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, working on the farm and taking care of her family. She was a member of Herren’s Chapel Church of Christ. Survivors include daughter Brenda Carr of Silver Point, grandchildren: Randall Glenn (Brandi) Bean of Gainesboro, Jeffrey Larry Howell and Tara Dawn Bennett both of Baxter, great grandchildren: Braelynn Macie Bennett, Katelynn Jade Bennett and Brooklynn Elizabeth Bennett, brother Joel (Dorothy)Cowan of Cookeville and a host of nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Saturday from 4 to 8 PM and after 11 AM Sunday at the funeral home.
