Interstate 40 eastbound may need to be shut down in Putnam County after a tractor trailer left the roadway Tuesday morning.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the incident happened as the oversized load was going around a curve at the 298 mile marker. Officials said part of the interstate broke off, causing the tractor trailer and load to end up leaning against a guard rail.
Lieutenant Jimmy Neal said the trooper on scene advised the interstate may need to be shut down in order to pull the tractor trailer out.
The company has a wrecker and another tractor enroute.
