Florida Man Charged In New Year’s Day Shooting

A Florida man faces charges in connection with a deadly New Year’s Day shooting in Crossville.

27-year-old Douglas Lee Deck is being held behind bars on $200,500 bond for charges of failure to appear and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Cumberland County Sheriff Casey Cox said Monday that a grand jury will decide if Deck faces murder charges in the death of 58-year-old Paul Wing. Officials with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations said Wing suffered fatal gunshot wounds during an argument with Deck. The shooting took place at a home on Sandy Creek Road.

Wing was transported to Cumberland Medical Center where he later died.

Cox said Deck is a convicted felon and was prohibited from possessing a weapon. Deck had outstanding warrants for charges in Cumberland County and Monroe County.

Deck is scheduled to appear in general sessions court Thursday, Jan. 17th at the Cumberland County Justice Center.
