McMinnville Finds Temporary Home For Civic Center

The McMinnville Civic Center will have a temporary home while a remodeling project takes place.

City Administrator Bill Brock said the board of mayor and aldermen have signed a lease agreement to use the Three Star Mall.

“The mall is thrilled to have an influx of extra people and we are happy to be there because their hours are similar to our hours,” Brock said. “It’s just kind of a win-win situation. Parking lot, security, it’s indoors, so we are looking forward to the move.”

Brock said the lease agreement will be good for about 18 months.

“The contractor says he was looking at a schedule of 15 months to get completed,” Brock said. “We’re probably going to rent it for a years lease and then go month-to-month after that.”

The city hopes to begin the $9.2 million remodeling project by the end of the year. The work will include utility upgrades, an expansion project, and making the building ADA compliant.

The McMinnville Civic Center has not had any renovations since it was built brand new in the 1970’s.
