Habitat For Humanity To Change Name In 2019

Putnam County Habitat for Humanity will start the new year with a name change.

Executive Director Pam Ealey said the nonprofit ministry will be known as Upper Cumberland Habitat for Humanity.

“For the last year or two, we have expanded our service area to include Overton County,” Ealey said. “In our strategic plan we’re looking at expanding more as the years go along. We just felt it was time to change the name.”

Ealey said the name change had to be approved by neighboring Habitat affiliates as well as Habitat for Humanity International.

“They also go through the process of asking our neighboring affiliates. They want to make sure those affliates in our immediate region are happy with the name and don’t have any conflicts with our name,” Ealey said. “It was a several weeks process once our board decided on going with Upper Cumberland Habitat for Humanity.”

Ealey said a new logo and website will also be coming next year.

“We’ve already bought the domain for the website. It will be UCHabitat.org,” Ealey said. “We will probably do that sometime in the month of January just to make sure we are ready.”

The name change takes effect on January 1st.
