Council to Consider Design Contract For Water Plant Project

The Cookeville City Council will meet Thursday to consider approving a design contract for a rehab project at the water department.

Water Department Director Ronnie Kelly said the work will take place within the solids facility at the wastewater treatment plant.

“We’re replacing a lot of equipment, adding some covered storage, and replacing the pasteurization vessels,” Kelley said. “It’s a pretty big project. Probably a $5 million project.”

Kelly said this will be the third phase of a rehab project that’s been taking place at the plant over the past few years.

“We had replaced the UV system in 2016 and it was like a $2.5 million project,” Kelly said. “We’re currently doing a project on the headworks of the plant and it’s approximately a million dollar project.”

If approved by the city council, Consolidates Technologies will provide consulting engineering services for designing improvements and equipment replacements at the facility. The agreement with the company would cost about $555,500.

“They’ve done the other two projects down there,” Kelly said.

Kelly said he would like the entire project to be budgeted over the next two budget cycles.

The Cookeville City Council will meet Thursday at 5:30 p.m. inside city hall.
