TTU’s Rec Center, Lab Sciences Buildings Slated for 2020 Completion Dates

Tennessee Tech’s Student Recreation Center and Lab Sciences building projects are slated for completion in 2020.

Senior Director of Communications and Marketing Dewayne Wright says recent rain and snow haven’t delayed either of the projects thus far.

“The Lab Sciences and the Student Recreation Center, those are still on track,” Wright says. “When we start a project, the university and the contractors build in weather delays.”

Wright says the recreation center project will likely be completed first as crews have begun work building the outside walls of the facility.

“All of the structure of the building has been completed, and that’s probably the one most people see just because it is on the edge of campus,” Wright says. “They are now starting to work on framing the outside of the building. That’s expected to be completed in early 2020.”

Wright says construction on the new Lab Sciences building isn’t too far behind the rec center with a target completion date of no later than mid-2020.

“A large amount of the structural steel has been erected now,” Wright says. “If you’re on campus, it’s kind of hard to miss, but you tend to not be able to see it from 7th Street and the roads around campus.”

Both projects are just two of the 14 active State Building Commission projects currently under development at Tennessee Tech. Each of the projects range from preliminary design and planning to active construction.
