Baxter officials have approved an annexation for a piece of property that could eventually be a commercial development.
Mayor John Martin said the Nashville Highway property sits right beside Potters Ace Home Center.
“It’s a great area for retail, restaurants, grocery stores or whatever,” Martin said. “There’s enough room for that as well.”
The board of mayor and aldermen held a public hearing for the annexation last week and also voted to change the property’s zoning from R1 to Commercial.
“Everything that’s annexed into the city is annexed in as R1 or residential,” City Planner Tommy Lee said. “There is a commercial lot immediately adjacent on the eastern side,” Lee said.
No specific plans have been announced for the property.
