The Baxter Board of Mayor and Aldermen gave the green light for a 124-house subdivision to move forward Thursday.
During a public hearing, resident Christine Klein said she wasn’t opposed to the annexation, but would like to see some updates to the city’s codes for subdivisions.
“A couple of things that I would like to possibly see added into those codes, or at least be considered for this property, would be requirements for beautification and maintaining the natural scape of the area,” Klein said. “The other thing would be downlighting because there’s a natural glow happening.”
Baxter Mayor John Martin tried to reassure residents attending the meeting that the project would benefit the town.
“It’s going to be a beautiful subdivision. They’re not going to put something up that’s going to devalue your property in any way. If anything, it will increase the price of your property,” Martin said. “The two that are involved in this are very reputable.
Realtor Donnita Hill will be developing the property. Hill said last week that her goal is to build a first-class subdivision.
“I know there will be concerns by people and I wanted to say that I don’t do anything unless I do it right,” Hill said. “This will be a first-class subdivision with good restrictions protecting everyone. We want to make it something that Baxter is proud of.”
The board on Thursday night approved the second and final reading of an ordinance annexing the 60-acre property on Baxter Road.
The Baxter Planning Commission will meet January 3rd to review development plans for the subdivision.
