White County Railroad Repairs Beginning Saturday

A project to improve the Highway 111 railroad crossing in White County will begin Saturday.

That according to County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson.

“Unless something really just strange happens and there’s a really big front that surprises us, we should be starting Saturday morning, ” Robinson said. “We have pushed it back a day because of the rain.”

The five day project will have Highway 111 completely shut down at Fred Hill Road. Robinson said drivers should use caution in the construction area.

“Obviously watch your speed and slow down because there will be a couple turns involved,” Robinson said. “It may add a few more extra minutes to your commute, but it shouldn’t be bad at all.”

Robinson said detours will be in place at Highway 111 and Fred Hill Road. Northbound traffic will exit off Highway 111 onto Mayberry Street and head North to Bockman Way. Southbound 111 traffic will take a left on Fred Hill Road and take a right on Mayberry.

The Tri-County Railroad Authority received a $200,000 grant to repair the 120-foot crossing earlier this year. Robinson said the work includes shoulders, four traffic lanes, an acceleration lane, and median.

“I’m very excited about this. It’s been a concern of mine for two or three years,” Robinson said. “Working through the process with the state to get this prepared has been quite an ordeal.”

The work is expected to be completed by Wednesday, December 19th.
