Cumberland Co. Continues High School Stadium Renovations

Cumberland County High School looks to have renovations on its football stadium completed by this spring.

Principal Jon Hall says the stadium renovations were much needed for a facility that has seen its better days.

“We have totally gutted the inside of the stadium,” Hall says. “We’re building new bathrooms and a new concession stand. All the plumbing and electric will be new. We’re adding a dressing room for the visiting teams and renovating some storage spaces for the school to use. It’s a really exciting project.”

Hall says crews are working to replace several aspects of the stadium such as concrete bleachers and outdated utilities.

“They’re working everyday. When the weather is good, they’re working outside,” Hall says. “We’ve got new handrails that will go up on the bleachers and they’re working on those. We’re going to have new aluminum bleachers installed over the concrete, and those should be in next week sometime… It’s in process right now.”

Hall says the stadium renovation will not effect the football team whatsoever but adds the project will slightly effect the school’s track-and-field team.

“It will just a little bit at the beginning of the season,” Hall says. “I think they’ve made arrangements to practice at Stone Memorial. They’ve been very generous. But  the track should be finished in March.”

Hall says the stadium renovations are just part of a larger $3 million project across the Cumberland High School campus. The total project includes the field replacement last summer as well as updates across the main building in addition to the stadium renovations.

Hall estimates all three aspects of the project cost the school approximately $3 million in total. The stadium renovations are expected to be completed in the spring just in time to host graduation ceremonies.
