Baxter Aldermen voted to annex almost 60-acres of property Thursday for a new subdivision.
Mayor John Martin said the project will be a nice addition for the new ceramic tile manufacturing facility that’s locating in town.
“They have enough confidence in what’s getting ready to take place in Baxter and they realize that people are going to need nice homes to live in with Portobello coming,” Martin said. “This is really going to be a nice subdivision.”
Realtor Donnita Hill plans for 124 houses to be developed at the property on South Baxter Road. Hill said her goal is to create a first-class subdivision.
“I know there will be concerns by people and I wanted to say that I don’t do anything unless I do it right,” Hill said. “This will be a first-class subdivision with good restrictions protecting everyone. We want to make it something that Baxter is proud of.”
The annexation passed on first reading Thursday. A public hearing will be held Thursday, December 13th at 5 p.m.
Earlier this week, Portobello America announced it would invest $150 million to build a new United States headquarters in Baxter.
