Construction Starts On Budd Bishop Park

Construction has started on a new park that will honor a former community activist for the city of Livingston.

Envision Livingston group member Ray Evans said the the park will be named after the late Budd Bishop.

“Budd died two years ago and we’ve been looking for a way to honor him somewhere around the courthouse square,” Evans said. “Two years ago, I bought a piece of property from them on the square and we decided that it would be appropriate to construct a small pocket park there.”

Evans said Bishop was the chairman and founder of the Downtown Revitalization Committee. He also served on the Livingston Planning Commission.

The small park will be built at the corner of North Church and East Broad Street. Evans said construction began this week and will likely be completed sometime next week.

“It’s a relatively small park, but it’s got a lot of landscaping,” Evans said. “Right on the corner is a water feature and there will be a couple of standard city of Livingston benches as well.”

Evans said he will look to donate the property to the city during the January board of mayor and aldermen meeting.
