A broken sewer line has closed portions of East Broad Street in Cookeville until further notice Tuesday.
Operations Superintendent Carey Phy says a private contractor was working on a project that involved boring under Broad Street when they struck an eight-inch sewer line.
Phy says the contractor was working to repair a larger 18-inch sewer main as part of a cured-in-place project to repair the line when the break occurred.
The city released a statement saying the area between North Ferguson Avenue and Fisk Road will remain closed as crews attempt to repair the line.
The road will likely remain closed until about 6 p.m. but adds it’s unclear as to how long repairs may actually take.
