The Crossville and Fairfield Glade Lions Clubs have partnered with the Tennessee College of Applied Technologies (TCAT) in Crossville for their 20th annual ‘Coats for the Cold’.
TCAT Student Success Coordinator Jena DeMars says the coat drive benefits both the students who work the event in addition to those in need.
“We are very appreciative to partner with the Lions Clubs and the school systems,” DeMars says. “This allows our students to build work ethic, leadership, and networking with classes that they normally would not network with. We’re just very grateful we can be a part of this.”
DeMars says TCAT and the Lions Clubs have spent several weeks collecting coats donated to area drop-off locations.
“The Cumberland County Bank, Exit Rocky Top, Farm Bureau, dentist offices, and the fire department… each business set up a barrel,” DeMars says. “Once a week, the school and the student body would volunteer and go out to pick up these coats, bring back to the school, and start assembling them in order by size and by child, men, and women.”
DeMars says anyone in need of warm clothing during the winter months can stop by TCAT Building 1 in Crossville beginning this evening between 4-7 p.m. People can stop by on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. as well.
