Rickman VFD Gets New Pumper Truck

The Rickman Volunteer Fire Department has purchased a new fire truck.

Chief Josh Nave said he credits the Firefighters’ Friend Foundation for helping find the new engine.

“They reach out to volunteer fire departments that are not funded or under funded,” Nave said. “They come up with things that under funded fire departments can’t get. These guys have it or can get their hands on it.”

Nave said the department purchased the 1992 Marion pumper for $10,000 after an engine blew on the old truck.

“The engine two truck that blew up was a backup truck that we used on every call and it was a needed asset for the community and the department,” Nave said.

Nave said the new truck would have cost $100,000 without the help of the Firefighters’ Friend Foundation.

“Without Firefighters’ Friend, a lot of volunteer fire departments wouldn’t have gear because those things are priced so high and it’s hard to raise money to get it,” Nave said. “They are just amazing to work with and they put a lot of time into this.”

Firefighters’ Friend is a Celina-based non-profit organization that provides assistance to fire departments that under funded or have experienced hardships.
