White County Football Moves To Non-Region Schedule

The White County High School football team will not be eligible for postseason play for the next two seasons.

Principal Grant Swallows said the TSSAA has allowed the program to switch to a non-region schedule for the next two seasons.

“That’s that disappointing part of it, but we’ve not qualified for the playoffs in five years,” Swallows said. “We had to make a tough decision to try to get some momentum generated in our football program and we felt like this was the best way we could do that.”

Swallows said the non-region schedule allows White County to schedule like-sized, geographically closer opponents.

“We really want to play teams that are close to us as opposed to driving two hours to play a school that has more students than we do,” Swallows said. “We think it’s a great opportunity for us to do this for two years with the intention to go back into a region after two years.”

Swallows said he hopes the move will help improve a struggling football program that has lost 24 straight games.

White County originally petitioned the TSSAA to switch regions, but they declined to do that during a reclassification cycle.

Swallows said the switch only affects the football program as basketball and other sports will continue to play a region schedule.
