The Cookeville Police Department will be prepared for a potential increase in traffic during Black Friday.
Captain Bobby Anderson said traffic units will be fully staffed to ensure drivers stay safe on the roadways.
“We just ask people to drive defensively. Make sure that you’re paying attention to where you are going and allow plenty of time to get where you are going,” Anderson said. “Use a lot of patients when you travel and don’t allow a situation to turn into a road rage incident.”
Anderson said the department typically doesn’t see an increase in accidents or violations on the road during the Black Friday Holiday.
“Everybody seems to behave themselves and they do drive defensively,” Anderson said. “Our statistics don’t really rise during that time.”
The new Shoppes at Eagle Point development will likely cause traffic problems for the area of surrounding the Shopping center. So far this year, traffic has not been a problem in that area.
Anderson said there has not been any crashes along S. Walnut or Interstate Drive. The police department reported two crashes at the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Veteran’s Drive since the stores opened.
Prior to the Shoppes opening, one crash took place in the construction zone of the Shoppes and one crash at the intersection of Walnut Ave. and Veterans Dr.
