Volunteers Needed For Rescue Mission Bell Ringing

The Cookeville Rescue Mission needs about 950 volunteers for this year’s Sound of Hope bell ringing event.

Rescue Mission Executive Director Bruce Bell said the event officially gets underway the day after Thanksgiving.

“We are still in need of about 900 people. One of the great things this year is that some churches and groups have elected to take an entire day at all of our location,” Bailey said. “But it’s a great time for families to come out and share a little fun and laugh while they are standing in the cold weather. They’re doing it for a good cause.”

Bailey said the Sound of Hope bell ringing marks the biggest fundraising campaign of the year for the rescue mission.

“We are donor driven and don’t have any government funds,” Bailey said. “We really rely on the support of the good residents of Putnam County to help us carry through our mission.”

The rescue mission has set a goal to raise a minimum of $150,000 during the holiday campaign. That money would help fund a new 12-18 month rehabilitation program that’s being implemented at the mission.

Last year’s bell ringing event brought in about $134,000.
