The Tennessee Highway Patrol and Cookeville Police Department issued nearly 70 citations Tuesday.
The THP, Highway Safety Office, and CPD partnered for ‘Operation Incognito’ in an effort to crack-down on distracted driving and other violations around the region.
Authorities stopped roughly 20 motorists just within the two-hour operation Tuesday morning. Authorities stopped individuals for several violations, including a commercial truck driver texting while driving on I-40.
THP troopers issued 60 of the 68 total citations on the day, with more than half being for speeding and seat belt violations. A DUI and open container arrest were also made by the THP.
Lieutenant Jimmy Neal reports the citations issued were during the THP’s morning shift.
Members of the THP and CPD rode aboard a tour bus from Cookeville to Sparta, Livingston, and Buffalo Valley. Authorities were able to spot distracted drivers or other violations, and call ahead to other troopers or officers along the roadways to report the violators.
