Mountain Bike Trail Under Construction At Edgar Evins

Mountain bike trail construction has started at Edgar Evins State Park.

Ranger Justin Vaughn said crews have made pretty good progress so far.

“We’ve had a couple of good work days. We’ve got about 100 yards already dug on this trail. It’s going to be a pretty intensive intermediate trail,” Vaughn said. “We haven’t stared the beginner trail, but I’m hoping to have it done by the end of the year.”

Once completed, the entire trail will be six miles in length.

The intermediate section of the trail will likely be finished by the spring of 2020. Vaughn said the weather and terrain have posed a few challenges during construction.

“We’re having to dig down three foot in some of our places to put our trail tread and we are having to dig a whole lot more because of the terrain,” Vaughn said. “I think it took us three hours to go 25 yards yesterday. It’s going to take a little bit of time.”

Vaughn said he hopes the new mountain bike trail will bring another demographic of outdoor enthusiasts to the park.

“Hopefully it will improve our visitation and just gives us one more recreational opportunity for people to come out and enjoy this place,” Vaughn said.
