Booher Sentenced to 24 Years in 2016 Arson Case

A judge handed down a 24-year prison sentence Wednesday to a man convicted of setting fire to three homes in Overton County.

Calvin Booher pleaded guilty to arson as well as three related charges stemming from events that occurred two years ago.

The incident occurred on September 19th, 2016 when Booher went on a violent crime spree in which he set fire to three homes, including one of a former judge. Booher also committed a carjacking and stole another vehicle. He was later caught following a 12-hour manhunt.

Booher was also indicted in September 2017 after an investigation by the TBI revealed he tried to have a witness murdered while he was incarcerated.

Booher will serve 15 years at 100 percent and the remaining nine years at 35 percent.
