Sales Tax Repealed in Smith Co., Wine Allowed in Carthage

Referendums effecting Carthage residents and all of Smith County were passed during Tuesday’s election.

The first referendum repeal the county’s sales and use tax. Over 58 percent of voters elected to repeal the tax  originally implemented in 1999 by the Smith County Board of Commissioners.

Meanwhile, voters elected to legalize the sale of wine within city grocery stores. Just under three-quarters of all votes went towards passing the issue.
