Meadow Creek Master Plan To Be Discussed Monday

Monterey’s board of mayor and aldermen will take a look at bylaws and a master plan for Meadow Creek Park when they meet Monday night.

The updated master plan includes a proposal for a mountain bike trail that will be developed by a group of local volunteers.

“We’ve been working with lots of different groups and one of the groups is made up of avid cyclist,” Kupferer said. “They have told us that if we can get about eight to ten miles of biking trails out there then we can get people from all over the southeast.”

Kupferer said the group has agreed to help develop the first five miles of mountain bike trails this fall. The group has worked on the mountain bike trail on Cane Creek Park and other parks around the area.

“It’s going to be volunteers. We are paying a little stipend to the person who is going to lay the trail out,” Kupferer said. “We are very lucky to have a good group of avid cyclist in the Upper Cumberland.”

The master plan also includes proposals for hiking trails, a swimming area, an ADA kayaking/canoeing launch ramp, and a climbing/bouldering area.

The board look to approve some bylaws for future future volunteer groups at the park. The proposed bylaws include information about membership fees and the roles for the board of directors.

Monday’s board meeting begins at 7:00 inside city hall.
