Harvest Fellowship Church Raising Funds for Clay County Shooting Victims

The Harvest Fellowship Church of God is accepting donations to help cover expenses for the victims in the Clay County shooting Monday.

Pastor John Davis said people who would like to donate can do so via their GoFundMe page or by mailing donations to the church.

“They lived in a little one-bedroom trailer and they were all inside the trailer when this happened,” David said. “We’ve been having some prayer vigils at this point [but] we have not had one at the church yet. We’re going to do some stuff like that at the church but we’re still concerned about Justin (the male victim) and trying to get some stuff done there. We’ll see how he’s going to do and what we need to do for him also.”

The shooting left 11-year-old Harley Evans dead while her father and his girlfriend were flown to a Nashville hospital for treatment.

Davis, who lives along North Fork Road near where the shooting occurred, said he was shocked when he found out what happened, especially in such a small community.

“You’d think we’re immune out in the country like that but it’s obvious we’re not,” Davis said. “We’re trying to come together as a group and just support everybody.”

Davis said he spoke with parents of Hermitage Springs Elementary students Monday evening as their children asked about the incident.

“These children down there, they’re all in shock,” Davis said. “I had parents sending me texts last night and stuff on Facebook about their children coming home and asking their mothers and fathers how could somebody do this… It’ll take a long time for this to settle and for people to get over it.”

Davis said he’s known the father for nearly 30 years and asks everyone to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers.
