The Putnam County Board of Education voted unanimously Monday to reject a bid to sell the old Uffelman Elementary School building.
Putnam County Schools Superintendent Jerry Boyd said the district received only one bid for $75,000.
“We need to regroup and re-bid before the board makes a decision to give away public property for an amount that we think is lower than it needs to be,” Boyd said. “Ultimately, if we continue to not get anything that we think is in reason, we may just re-purpose the building.”
Boyd said the school board could decide to use the building for storage or give it to another county department.
“We cannot build a storage building for $75,000 and that one would be a conditioned building,” Boyd said. “Before we give it away we need to really make sure that we do something that’s fiscally responsible for the public.”
Boyd said he would bring back a recommendation for the building in the near future.
