Happy Trails Brewing Company will hold its grand opening Saturday.
Jessica Upchurch is the owner and head brewer of Happy Trails Brewing Company. She said when folks visit the new taproom they will notice a connection with Tennessee State Parks.
“We’ve worked with the state parks and we’ve worked out a deal where we can use some of the local park names in our beers,” Upchurch said. “On tap I’m going to have a Burgess Blonde, named after Burgess Falls and a Pickett Pale, named after Pickett State Park.”
Happy Trails will open its doors for the first time at 11:00 a.m. Saturday on East Bockman Way. It will be the first brewery to open in the city limits of Sparta.
Upchurch and her husband began efforts to open Happy Trails nearly a year ago. The couple eventually found space in the back of the Old Sparta TV and Appliance building.
The past several months have been spent renovating the building and getting it up to standards.
“It feels amazing. I can’t wait for people to come in and get to see what we have done,” Upchurch said. “Everything that we’ve chosen and put into this place is very personal to us. It’s going to be such a great feeling to actually have people in there that we get to share this with.”
Upchurch said she and her husband worked closely with the city of Sparta and City Manager Chris Dorsey in order for the business to become a reality.
“They’ve been super supportive and we’ve gone before the board a number of times now and there’s been no opposition,” Upchurch said. “Sparta is just such an awesome little city and I think everybody is ready for this.”
Sparta’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen passed several ordinances allowing Happy Trails to manufacture beer within city limits and to serve beer on and off premises.
Happy Trails Brewing Company is located at 36 East Bockman Way.
