The City of Livingston will be considering the possibility of utilizing solar energy technology.
Mayor Curtis Hayes said going solar would help the city save money within the general fund.
“We control a lot of high-powered pumps and a lot of lighting within the city of Livingston,” Hayes said. “We are just entertaining the thought of looking at some solar panels to generate electricity and save us some money on our electricity bills.”
Hayes said the city council met with officials from Hannah Solar and Johnson Control this month to discuss a solar energy project.
“Hannah Solar and Johnson Controls have teamed up to do a study, which is not yet complete,” Hayes said. “Preliminary studies show that we could save possibly 30-percent.”
Hayes said the group approached city officials about solar energy last year, but the city wasn’t in the position to do anything at the time.
“We are just taking out time, being cautious, and giving the council some time to get this in their systems,” Hayes said. “We’ll see how it goes and if we feel like there is a good healthy return on our investment then we will take the next step in signing a contract with Hannah Solar and Johnson Controls.”
Hayes said this month’s meeting was the first process of probably three or four more meetings with the group.
