Illegal Tire Dump To Be Cleaned up Thursday

The Putnam County Clean Commission will be cleaning up an illegal tire dump Thursday.

Executive Coordinator of Keep Putnam County Beautiful Shannon Reese said volunteers will be meeting at a field off of Grider Road Thursday morning.

“We did a clean up already with the Air Force recruits and we cleaned up close to 300 tires,” Reese said. “There are plenty of tires and we need lots and lots of volunteers.”

Only five people have signed up to help with the project.

Reese said the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation works with the clean commission on locating illegal tire dumps.

“A lot of times they will identify an area that has an illegal tire dump and they will notify the property owner,” Reese said. “We will work towards getting it cleaned up for the property owner.”

Reese said illegal tire dumps have been an issue in Putnam County and she encourages residents to notify the clean commission about areas with multiple tires left on the ground.

“When tires stay without being removed they are a breeding ground for mosquitoes and there is all kinds of diseases that can be spread from tires,” Reese said. ”

If you would like to volunteer for Thursday’s project, you can show up to the location at 9:00 a.m. or email the clean commission at cleancommission@gmail.com

Grider road is located off of Burgess Falls Road.
