After voting to suspend ordinary procedure, the Crossville City Council last night approved a measure to enable flashing red and yellow lights at 15 designated intersections within the city from midnight to 5 a.m.
The lights in question would all be subject to a 200-foot sight distance.
“You have to have a certain sight distance so you can make sure that when you come to a stop, you can see that you’re not going to get caught by somebody coming through the flashing yellow,” City Manager Greg Wood explained. “You have to be able to see [that far] so you can safely cross the street after stopping.”
The measure passed with unanimous approval.

- South Main Street (127) at Cleveland Street/Elmo Drive
- South Main Street (127) at First Street
- North Main Street (127) at Fourth Street
- North Main Street (127) at Woodmere/Subway
- North Main Street (127) at Lowe’s
- North Main Street (127) at Walmart
- Tenth Street at Miller Avenue
- Livingston Road at Miller Avenue
- Livingston Road at Elmore Road
- West Avenue at Stanley Street
- Tennessee Avenue at 70/Sparta Highway
- Northside/Northwest Connector at 70 N
- Webb Avenue at East First Street
- Webb Avenue at Genesis Road
- Dunbar Road at Lantana Road
The proposed changes are slated to go into effect within the next month, and are subject to review.
