Putnam EMS Hopes To Get New Power Cots With Grant

Putnam County EMS hopes to get new power cots with an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG).

EMS Director Tommy Copeland said the current cots have reached the age of 12-years-old.

“At some point, we’re either gonna have to purchase cots or us be successful in one of these grants,” Copeland said. “It would save the county a great deal of money if we could be successful in getting a grant.”

If awarded the grant, Putnam County would pay about $20,000 for the cots and the AFG grant would cover more than $200,000.

Copeland said the county has applied for the AFG grant at least eight times and received it a total of three times.

The Putnam County Fiscal Review Committee gave approval Monday for the department to apply for the grant. The county commission will consider approving the recommendation next week.

“The end of this month is the closing for this grant and the soonest that we would be awarded would be sometime next spring,” Copeland said.

The Putnam County Commission meets Monday, October 15th at 6:00 p.m.
