Putnam Commission Looking to Name Old Baxter Road Bridge

The Putnam County Road Committee will decide whether to name the Old Baxter Road overpass after Francis Marion Roberts who once lived in the area.

County Commissioner Danny Holmes presented the idea before the commission Monday before it was moved to the Road Committee.

“We’ve been working on this for several, several months, maybe close to a year because I didn’t know exactly how to get this done,” Holmes said. “If we get this done, [the State Senate] probably won’t even look at it until January, so it probably will be next May before the bridge would even be named. It doesn’t even have a name now.”

Holmes said once approved by the county commission, County Executive Randy Porter will submit the proposal to Senator Paul bailey to present to the State Senate for the state’s approval.

No word on when the road committee will meet to discuss Holmes’ proposal.
