Monterey officials approved on Monday a $27,400 bid to extend the town’s walking trail approximately 450 linear feet.
The board declined to approve an option that would have extended the trail another 450 linear feet because the city would have footed the bill for the project.
JJ Reels is a Ward 2 Alderman in Monterey.
“There’s a lot of other things that we need worry about spending money on,” Reels said. “If we approve another $20,000 for a trail there’s going to be a lynch mob waiting on us when we get outside.”
The awarded bid will extend the trail from Poplar Street to Walnut. Monterey will use a grant from the State Department of Health to pay for the entire project.
